Here's the good news:
There's a nice article at the New York Times about how Seattle is nifty. I agree. I lived there for more than a year, and I still can't have a cup of coffee without waxing nostalgic about the "real coffee" I could get right on the corner at Cafe Ladro, Best Coffeehouse in the Universe. I think it may be time to pick up a ticket at Jet Blue and take a break from this crazy city in sunny, sunny Seattle.
Here's the bad news:
My beloved alma mater, Amherst College, has slipped from its Number One spot on the U.S. News and World Report listing of Best Liberal Arts Colleges. To be replaced with Williams. That hurts. Now, anyone's free to say the listings are a joke and don't matter and aren't fair and whatever. But if I hadn't seen that Amherst was Numero Uno in 1996, I almost certainly would have ended up in the frigid wastes of Williams or at sour, beer-soaked Dartmouth or in the wastelands of Cornell. Thank the Trees for U.S. News and World Report. All hail the Leaves and Roots for leading me down the path of righteousness. Hopefully, Amherst will reclaim its rightful place next year. I'll have to give more money, I guess.
p.s. I was just kidding, by the way. I would never have attended Dartmouth.
Hey, man, I used to work for Dartmouth.

You're off the artistic integrity list for that Cornell crack, David.

thank god we didn't tie for third with Swarthmore. or even worse with Wellesley - that would have been really embarrassing.
