Another Mob Botched

As usual, Satan's Laundromat got the scoop on the latest Flash mob. I wish I had a digital camera like he does. A good one, I mean, not a shitty phone cam like the one I've got.

Of course, if I had a digital camera, I would wish for a phone cam.

Anyway, instead of setting the Flash Mob out in public on Times Square itself, as everyone had hoped, The Flash Master decided to set it in Toys 'R Us, with apparently dismal results.

Is it really so complicated? You want a big spot with plenty of room to get in and out. You want big crowds to be able to watch, but you don't want them mixing with your Flash Mob and diluting its effect. Times Square is perfect for this. There's that little park triangle by the TKTS booth. We could all have gotten on line for theater tickets, filled the whole place, and then left five minutes later. Maybe when someone shouted that there were no more tickets for "Thoroughly Modern Millie". Boom, everyone leaves. The sudden melting away seems to be an effect that the best Mob would achieve. I'd want there to be three hundred people one minute, and nobody but a few ignorant tourists the next. That's the kind of thing that makes you question reality.

Also, unlike cheesebikini (I hate that name. HATE IT!), it looks like Satan's Laundromat actually posts content outside of Flash Mobs. In fact, it looks like he's almost finished riding (and photographing) the entire NYC subway system. Neat! I love the subways, especially the more unknown nooks and crannies. I loved that subway base the Turtles had in TMNT 2. Yes, the movie sucked, but who wouldn't want to live in abandoned subway cars and practice ninjitsu with Vanilla Ice?

All told, it seemed pretty silly: afterwards I couldn't help thinking we'd all go swallow goldfish next, or see how many people we could stuff into a phone booth. As I said in my last entry, I still think these things need a cause, some kind of purpos... [Read More]

After a night to sleep on it, we're starting to agree more with Satan's Laundromat, Fancy Robot and Chris Erway about the Mob concept -- not so much where or how it should be held, but whether it can even [Read More]

A better instruction-giving method is necessary to make these mobs perform more complex and interesting tasks. So, my idea: radio-controlled flash mobs. [Read More]

You may want to take a look at these entries. He's vulgar, but makes some good points, especially in the second post.
